Saab Key Programming
Saab cars produced since 1994 use an immobilizer system that relies on key codes. A new transponder is required for addition of an additional key, and special programming. This is usually done by the dealer with a specialized Tech2 diagnostic tool.
The problem is that this can be very expensive. This is why it is important to always keep a spare key in your possession.
Transponder key
The transponder is a type of key that is equipped with an electronic chip. This chip sends a signal when the key is put into the ignition. The car is able to check if the signal matches the one on the key. If the signals are identical the car will then unlock itself and begin. saab key fob programming is a fantastic way to safeguard your car from theft.
Transponder keys may be a popular addition to cars, but they're not as safe as traditional keys made of metal. The metal part of the traditional key can be easily cut or copied, while transponders have an electronic chip that protects it. The chip contains a unique code that is programmed into a car's computer in order to identify it.
When a Saab key fob is used the car recognizes it and allows it to turn on. The car can only recognize the key fob if it is equipped with an unmodified chip and programmed to match. Otherwise, the car will reject the key and not start.
It is essential to have an extra Saab key. This is particularly true especially if you live in a rural area with numerous car thieves. You can obtain a replacement key for your Saab by going to the dealership, without having to pay their high prices. You can get a replacement key made on the spot at a fraction of the price you'd spend at a dealership.
Wired key
Saab cars are usually delivered with two keys. If you only have one, it's a good idea to get an additional key fob as soon as possible since if you lose it, your car will require a new CIM unit and the locking cylinders need to be replaced. This can be expensive especially for cars that are used.
The next step is to connect the wires for the column and row to the microcontroller. This is the most difficult part of the project and will require a good amount of soldering. There's no standard way to do it, but you must determine how to route and connect each column and row. For this keyboard, there are five rows and 17 columns, so there will be 22 microcontroller wires and pins that you need to connect.

Once the rows and columns are soldered, it's time to connect them to the key switches. To do this, put a diode over each pin on the key switch and then solder it. This will shield the pins from current, preventing them from being cut off. A diode only allows current to flow in one direction, and it has an indicator in black that indicates the direction current will flow.
Sanabria states that some of the tools available in auto parts stores, such as the Autel MaxiIM IM608PRO or IM508 can assist customers who are shopping or DIY customers to program replacement keys and restore data from the immobilizer. The tools plug into the OBD port and guide the user through the process, making it easier than replacing the computer inside the vehicle.
Jumpstarting the battery
Most people keep the set in their trunks to start a vehicle in the event of an emergency, however it might not be a good option for vehicles with newer technology. These vehicles have many digital and electronic devices that communicate with one another. A voltage surge when batteries are connected to another can fry the components making your car inoperable.
Connect the cables to the vehicle operating. Allow it to run for two minutes. Attach the red clip on the positive terminal of the good battery. (It will read "POS" or "+".) Attach the other end of the black cable to a clean, unpainted metal surface underneath the car's hood. The engine block would be an ideal choice. Do not connect the black cable to the negative terminal on the dead battery because it could ignite a spark that ignites the gasoline in the engine bay.
Once the cables are connected, start the vehicle that is disabled and allow it to run for around five minutes before disconnecting them in reverse order. Remember that the battery on your Saab 9-3 is charged while you drive, so it could take a while to get the battery back down again. It's a good idea buy a spare key fob as soon as you can, because replacing the only functioning one requires the installation of a new computer module and a special program to convince the system that your lost keys aren't attempting to steal the car.
Replacement Case
Many Saab owners have only one key for their vehicle and if they lose that they'll be charged. It's expensive to purchase a key and requires replacing the CIM or TWICE in the case of older models. In the event of theft, or any other catastrophe, it is best to have an extra key. However, don't purchase a secondhand key even if it's "new." Claimed-new keys from aftermarket sellers will not work and are likely to fail at the critical moment.
Most locksmiths cannot help you with a single working key and the dealer will charge you for the cost of replacing the computer in your vehicle to make a new replacement. We can, however, reset and re-program your computer's EEPROM to prepare it to accept the new key without having to replace the entire system. This could help you save a significant amount of money. It's also cheaper than waiting until you lose your only key.
